Thinking About Your Luxury Home’s Appliances

When you’re designing a custom house, you need to think of every little detail, from the floorboards to the doorknobs. But what about your luxury home appliances?

Since you use household appliances every day, it’s important to choose ones that work for you. Which models will fit with your custom home? It will all depend on your lifestyle, the size of your family, and your overall budget. Here are a few things to consider:

Energy-Saving Appliances

Once you’ve settled into your new custom home, you’ll start to receive letters in the mail—and we aren’t talking about the kind you get from friends and family. We’re talking about utility bills.

Every month, you’ll pay for water, electricity, and natural gas (assuming you don’t have a 100% solar offset with your home). Since you’ll be paying for these utilities for as long as you own your house, you’ll want to keep your bills as low as possible.

Look for appliances with the ENERGY STAR label, which ensures that the model will use less energy and still deliver the same efficiency. These models might cost more upfront, but the savings will be worth it in the long run.

Planning Your Kitchen

With any kitchen, the layout is key. How will you arrange your luxury home appliances, like the stove, fridge, and sink? One of the most popular layouts is the work triangle, which creates a clear path between all your amenities.

Think about how you move through the kitchen. You need a layout that works for you. Is it more important to have extra counter space or a bigger stovetop?

Is a built in refrigerator for you? These appliances are installed flush with your cabinets, so they don’t stick out from the walls. But to install these units, you need to ensure you have enough wall space (and ceiling height, since they tend to be taller). A built in refrigerator creates a seamless, modern look.

Thinking Ahead

You have your eye on a stainless steel dishwasher, but it’s a bit outside your appliance budget, and you’re trying to keep your luxury home build costs down. Should you settle for a smaller, less efficient unit instead?

Maybe you share your home with your partner or a family member. But in the future, you might be planning to start a family.

How will your household demands change once you have a few little ones running around? One thing’s for sure: the dirty dishes and the laundry will multiply. You’ll need models that will be able to keep up with your lifestyle.

We won’t deny that it’s important to stick to your budget. But consider this: if you need to purchase new appliances within a few years, you’ll end up spending more money. It might be worth it to invest in high-end appliances from the get-go, and you’ll be able to avoid common fridge issues or laundry machine problems.

Remember The Little Things

Not all of your appliances are the size of an oven. Sometimes, we overlook how important the small ones are.

For example, you use a microwave almost every day. And along with that, there’s your coffee maker, tea kettle, and blender. These small appliances ensure that your kitchen has everything you need.

While you’re shopping for these essentials, consider color-matching their finishes. For example, a bright blue food processor might clash with a dark red toaster. To create a cohesive theme, select appliances that match. Stainless steel is a popular choice, especially in the kitchen.
